Klopp's Misfiring Reds Can't Afford Another Slip

Let's be real, Liverpool's performance against Brighton at Anfield felt less like a title contender and more like a team still figuring things out in October. They won, sure, 2-1, but it was far from convincing. Luis Diaz got the equalizer in the first half, which was a nice moment, but the overall play? Sloppy in stretches. This is a side that needs to be blowing teams away, especially at home, if they’re serious about lifting the Premier League trophy over Arsenal and Manchester City.

Thing is, Brighton took the lead through Danny Welbeck inside two minutes. Welbeck. That's a gut punch, right there. It shows a lack of focus from the jump, and that's a pattern we've seen a few times this season. You can't give teams a head start and expect to always bail yourself out, especially not against the likes of City or even a resurgent Arsenal.

Trent's Defensive Problem Isn't Going Away

Here’s my hot take: Trent Alexander-Arnold is a liability in big games right now. We all know his passing range is world-class, but his defensive positioning against Brighton was, frankly, concerning. He’s often too high up the pitch, leaving massive gaps behind him, and it almost cost Liverpool more than once. Roberto De Zerbi’s Brighton exploited that space with ease in the first half, pushing Salah and Szoboszlai back just to cover.

And it's not just a one-off. Remember the Manchester United game? Alexander-Arnold was caught out multiple times there too, leading to frustrating moments for the Reds. If Liverpool wants to beat the best, they need a right-back who can defend consistently, not just spray forty-yard passes. Jürgen Klopp needs to address this, and fast, before it truly derails their season. His average of 1.7 tackles per game this season just isn't cutting it for a top-tier defender.

Liverpool will finish third this season. Mark it down.
